Honeybee has devoted considerable effort to meeting the challenges of sample containment. Sample containment is important to preventing the cross-contamination of extraterrestrial samples and the Earth environment.
Past work includes the development of a return sample containerization system for the cancelled ST4/Champollion mission.
In 2004, Honeybee was selected to receive multi-year funding under NASA’s Astrobiology Science and Technology Instrument Development (ASTID) program for the research and development of a sample storage and isolation system.
